THE PRICE OF STEAK
a pound of beef takes three-quarters of a gallon of oil to produce.

[right page]
weighing
in at 1250 pounds, marina willson's champion steer grandview rebel is
ready for auction at a county fair in maryland. raising this steer has
taken an agricultural investment equal to 283 gallons of oil --
represented here by the red drums. that includes everything from
fertilizers on cornfields to the diesel that runs machinery on the farm.

taken from vegetarian community post......originally from national geographic

now really people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! people need to get a
serious grip. on everything. I've been thinking about it,
andit is so sad/ridiculous how bad stuff has been getting. People
give no thought what-so-ever to bulldozing a good mile or forest for a
field or a house or whatever the hell they want to make. What
about the environment??? all the animals that were living
there??? Roads are getting expanded even farther into forests
just to make it more convenient for everyone else. Rainforests
are getting cut down every day just to clear agriculture, only for
people to discover that the farmlands suck and they can't even use
it. But they keep doing it. Sometimes I really wonder if
there are any brains in there at all. Oil - we're having a huge
crisis with it, but people still use it and everything else so
carelessly. You go somewhere and get a drink, and by the end of
the night you've used 5 or 6 cups, when if you had just taken the time
to hold onto your first one you would have used to much less.
THERE ISNT ENOUGH OF EVERYTHING TO GO ON FOREVER USING STUFF LIKE
THIS!!!! people just throw away cans and bottles - just recycle
them!!!!!!!! And the saddest thing about all or this, is that I
can't do much about it. You can't stop using cars to slow down
pollution, because they are vital in our society now. You can't
stop using factories, because then we wouldn't get everything we
need. And unfortunately, the only way people are going ot learn
is when we run low or run out, like we are now with oil, when it's too
late.
